In Nederland en in heel Europa is deze verduistering van 1 augustus 2008 te zien als een gedeeltelijke verduistering: we zien een hap uit de zonneschijf. In Utrecht bedraagt de bedekking ongeveer 26 procent. Daar verschijnt om 10.37 een deukje linksboven in de zon. Dit groeit langzaam uit tot een flinke hap tot de verduistering om 11.25 maximaal is. De maan verlaat de zonneschijf weer om 12.16 aan de linkerkant. Op andere plaatsen kunnen de tijden iets afwijken.
